CHIMERA MIXED MARTIAL ARTS

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu ∞ Submission Wrestling ∞ Muay Thai

Mixed martial arts (MMA) is a full contact combat sport that allows a wide variety of fighting techniques and skills, from a mixture of martial arts traditions and non-traditions, to be used in competitions. The rules allow the use of both striking as well as grappling techniques, both while standing and on the ground. Such competitions allow martial artists of different backgrounds to compete.

Don’t let the description detour you. Here at Chimera we practice and train in a controlled environment so that way participating can be useful for sport, self defense or even recreation.

 Class Overview

A typical class will have you start with a warm up consisting of various stretching exercises, trunk rotations, jumps, squats and core tightening exercises. Then there will be a series of movements or techniques taught and explained in full. Sparring, which is always a personal choice to participate, is always controlled and proper protective gear is worn, such as head gear, gloves and shin guards. At other times bags and mitts will be used for practicing Strikes (kicks, jabs and punches ect.).

Benefits of MMA

People who practice MMA feel and look healthier, but there are far more benefits than the physical side. While many think of martial arts as violent, in the mainstream it is used as self defense. It does not encourage violence but teaches the student how to control anger and how to use self control and restraint.

CLASSES

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu/ Submission Wrestling

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art and combat sport that focuses on grappling and especially ground fighting. It teaches that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend against a bigger, stronger opponent by using leverage and proper technique by applying joint-locks and chokeholds to defeat the other person.

Muay Thai/ Kickboxing

Muay Thai is referred to as the "Art of Eight Limbs" or the "Science Of Eight Limbs" because it makes use of punches, kicks, elbows and knee strikes, thus using eight "points of contact", as opposed to "two points" (fists) in Western boxing and "four points" (hands and feet) used in sport-oriented martial arts
